The Heaven Hill Academy is an English nursery & primary school. It was founded in 2015 to provide free education to the poorest children of the community.
Shamser Thapa is the founder & principal of the school. Since he grew up under very poor and rough circumstances, his dream was to start a free and non-hitting school for the poorest children of the community. His modern teaching style includes positive reinforcement, creative library lessons, and the inclusion of children with Down Syndrome. Shamser increases his impact by giving workshops and teaching other school on positive reinforcement techniques.
In 2018 we built three classrooms for the Heaven Hill Academy. This included a classroom for the fifth grade, a kitchen to teach about nutrition and hygiene, and a computer class that is used for regular computer classes, as well by the community in weekend classes.
Shamser has become an advocate for teaching without violence at Nepalese schools. By spreading this message, he is hoping to inspire other principals and teachers to follow him into a world where children are not beaten for forgetting their homework. In 2019 Shamser held a TEDx Talk in Kathmandu to spread his message.
